A number of women’s lives within the community have been inspired because of me

Night’s (53 years) parents migrated to Lyantonde in her childhood. In 1987, she got married to Mr. Muwonge. She says “SSF has contributed to my family’s improved relationship, income and social wellbeing. In 2014, I joined the SSF livelihood program (Micro-finance), we had the land but could not develop it, neither did we have the money to meet the basic needs or pay school fees for our 11 children. My husband in 2020 also started developing chronic headache illness and whenever this happened, he was unable to meet the basic needs. However, with the ease of access to credit through the SSF micro-finance, we have been able to acquire loans and invest in piggery, local brew (wine) and coffee plantation.

Currently, I am recognized as the 1st person who introduced SSF micro-finance to the community where fellow women’s lives have been impacted through ease of access credit, start-up small businesses and improve their income, we have been able to meet our basic needs even if my husband falls sick, constructed a house for ourselves, made our land (13 acres) productive hence improving food security, I was appointed as a mentor for youth on HIV/AIDS & GBV prevention counselling and also trained as a Village Health Team (VHT) member. At 53 years, the 10 years we have been with Salama SHIELD Foundation (SSF) together with my family and the community, we do not regret.

I therefore encourage my felloe women to involve their husbands in whatever they do, respect them, strive to set-up personal development right away from home and learn to link others to different opportunities whenever they hear about them just as I did”
